Our goal is to ensure that every student develops reading, writing, and math skills in ways that are meaningful to their individual lives and experiences. Our staff works together to understand each learner and find appropriate ways to assess and improve their progress. We then make sure that students can apply what they have learned in productive ways in school and in their community.

Common Core State Standards

The curriculum in Milwaukee Public Schools is based on Common Core State Standards. Students learn about mind-body wellness, beautify our upper and lower campus with their creations, and study and perform the music of Spanish-speaking communities worldwide.

A residency with Bembé Drum & Dance enhances the MSIS music and physical education curriculum. Bembé artist-educators teach students traditional dances from African-based cultures.

English Language Arts

Teachers provide 90 minutes of reading, writing, and oral language instruction per school day. Children build literacy skills by exploring print and multimedia texts from diverse genres. New technology and online learning tools are part of the experience. Students learn to think critically and to express complex ideas in their own voice when writing, speaking, or performing.

<scribe-shadow id="crxjs-ext" data-crx="okfkdaglfjjjfefdcppliegebpoegaii" style="position: fixed; width: 0px; height: 0px; top: 0px; left: 0px; z-index: 2147483647; overflow: visible; visibility: visible;"></scribe-shadow>

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_toggle title=”Act 20: Milwaukee Reads” open_toggle_text_color=”#2B2B28″ closed_toggle_background_color=”RGBA(255,255,255,0)” icon_color=”#007098″ toggle_icon=”||fa||900″ use_icon_font_size=”on” icon_font_size=”22px” open_icon_color=”#007098″ open_toggle_icon=”||fa||900″ open_use_icon_font_size=”on” open_icon_font_size=”22px” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” title_text_color=”#2B2B28″ title_level=”h4″ title_font=”Open Sans||||||||” title_font_size=”22px” custom_margin=”||10px||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ custom_css_toggle_icon=”position:relative;||padding-right:14px;||” border_width_all=”0px” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” sticky_enabled=”0″]

Teaching students to read requires skill and science.
