2023 MPS HBCU & Career Campus Tour Application Criteria Due 2/3/23
Milwaukee Public Schools and the College and Career Readiness Department will be awarding 100, 10th and 11th grade students (from Milwaukee School of Languages, Golda Meir, Marshall, Alliance, Milwaukee High School of Arts and Wisconsin Conservatory of Lifelong Learning), an opportunity to attend the 2023 MPS HBCU & Career Campus Tour. The four-day tour will depart from the General Mitchell Airport on Monday, March 27th, 2023 and return on Thursday, March 30, 2023. The tour will visit the following colleges and universities: Clark-Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Tuskegee University, Alabama State University and Miles College, as well as, visit career sites such as C.D. Moody Construction Company and Engineering Design Technologies in the Georgia region. The total expense for the tour is paid through the Department of College and Career Readiness, which includes airfare, housing, breakfast, lunch and historical site entrance. There is a $100 registration fee that will be used to hold student placement for the trip and will be returned to students on the tour for dinner purposes.
Applicants must meet all of the eligibility requirements and deadlines to qualify. Eligibility for the 2023 MPS HBCU & Career Campus Tour requires that the applicant be in attendance at one of the six selected schools during the 2020-2023 school year and meets all of the criteria below.
Applicants must meet and provide all of the following:
- 10th or 11th grade
- Submit recommendation form completed by a teacher, administrator, or other staff member.
- Write a minimum 300 word typed personal statement which addresses:
- Why you should be selected to attend the tour and/or identify two of the colleges on the tour and explain why you are interested in attending these colleges.
- Minimum of 75% attendance rate for the 2022-2023 school year.
- NO physical or mental safety referrals.
- $100 deposit fee
All materials must be returned to your school counselor by February 3rd, 2023. NO EXCEPTIONS!
