About

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Milwaukee School of Languages (MSL) among the top high schools in Wisconsin, placing MSL at No. 79 statewide.

An MSL education is a journey from immersion to global citizenship, from the first day of our middle school program to high school graduation. Families choose MSL to continue their child’s immersion education in French, German, or Spanish, building upon a strong foundation laid in K–5 immersion programs.

Our students bring with them bilingual skills, cultural awareness, academic ambition, and respect for diversity. These qualities shape their learning and reflect our school’s commitment to excellence and global readiness.

An MSL education blends rigorous academics, intensive language instruction, and expert, relationship-driven teaching. Our educators are not only specialists in their fields but also bilingual communicators and strong mentors. They work in partnership with students to uphold high expectations for both achievement and conduct. A consistent, supportive structure ensures every member of our community can learn, grow, and succeed.

Serving over 1,000 students in grades 6 through 12, MSL offers a rich, well-rounded curriculum. Courses in art, music, physical education, and world languages support creativity, wellness, and cross-cultural understanding. Students also have opportunities to explore advanced coursework and pursue college and career readiness pathways.

We are proud to offer meaningful educational and cultural experiences beyond the classroom—college visits, career training, international language exams, and global exchanges. Our high school students can earn the distinguished Seal of Biliteracy and even study a third language, deepening their global competence.

At MSL, learning extends far beyond the school day. Our Hawks athletic teams compete in ten sports. Students develop leadership and civic responsibility through a wide variety of clubs, extracurricular activities, and performance ensembles that celebrate cultural traditions and community voice.

Our school thrives because of our families. Parents and caregivers are active partners, serving as leaders on the School Engagement Council, energizing school spirit through the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA), and showing unwavering support as Hawks superfans. Two parent-led foundations help sustain the excellence of our immersion programs by investing in technology, language resources, and cultural exchange opportunities.

At MSL, we empower students to finish what they started—to graduate confident, capable, and ready for a world of opportunity.
