Families Are Reminded to Review MPS’ Visitor Policy
Dear MPS Families,
This message is a reminder to review our Visitor Policy. Milwaukee Public Schools welcomes all families in our buildings. To maintain a safe, productive learning environment, we have policies in place to ensure visits do not interrupt teaching and learning during the school day.
When you are visiting a school, please remember that:
- Families are always welcome to schedule a visit to observe their child’s classroom. Please note that school staff must be present during these observations to avoid disruptions to teaching and learning.
- Meetings with school staff must occur during non-instructional time. These meetings must be scheduled in advance to avoid disruptions to the school day. Please contact the office to schedule a visit.
- During meetings, conferences, and classroom visits, each student may have TWO visitors present, unless additional visitors are approved in advance.
- Visitors must always be accompanied by a staff member.
- When dropping off items at school, students will be called to the office to meet visitors.
Read the full Visitor Policy in the Parent/Student Handbook on Rights, Responsibilities, and Discipline at mpsmke.com/rights.
We also encourage families to update their emergency contacts at their child’s school. Children can only be released to individuals on the emergency contact list. We appreciate the cooperation of all students, families, and visitors in keeping our schools safe.
