The MSL Hawks compete from the fall season (practices may begin as early as August) into spring (sub-sectional and sectional competitions may extend into late May). Student-athletes are expected to attend practice every day and stay on top of academics. Students should notify their coach ahead of time if they cannot make a practice.<\/p>\n

Winter sports include boys and girls basketball, boys and girls wrestling, and boys swim.\r\n\r\nMilwaukee Public Schools requires all student-athletes to register for all high school athletics through the\u00a0online registration platform<\/a>. The Milwaukee School of Languages (MSL) varsity girls basketball team wrapped up the best season for any sport in the school's history.\r\n\r\nThe Lady Hawks were runners up in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 3 championship game in the state tournament, with a 43-31 loss to Hayward Saturday afternoon.\r\n\r\n\"Personally, I feel like I accomplished what I came here to accomplish,\" senior Timeah Stotts told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel<\/a>. \"For a small school like the Milwaukee School of Languages to be here at state, it feels really good. The Lady Hawks basketball program started at the school in 2005.\r\n\r\nCentral to the district\u2019s plan to increase academic achievement as part of its eight big ideas<\/a> is the redesign of the MPS experience to include expansion of fine arts, athletic programs and the opportunity for all students to participate in student clubs, associations and organization that support their interests and increase their connection with their school and community.\r\n\r\nThese activities offer opportunities for students to learn the values of teamwork, individual and group responsibility, physical strength and endurance, competition, diversity, and a sense of culture and community.
