Schools that receive AGR funding offer extra academic and instructional support, which can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Small class sizes (with 18:1 or 30:2 classroom ratios)<\/li>\n<li>One-on-one tutoring provided by a licensed teacher<\/li>\n<li>Instructional coaching for teachers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Ambitious Instruction Plan<\/h2>\n<p>The Milwaukee Public Schools <a href=\"https:\/\/mpsmke.com\/ambitiousinstruction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ambitious Instruction Plan<\/a> recognizes and celebrates that our students come from many cultures and backgrounds. This plan focuses on high-quality, culturally appropriate teaching and learning. Our goal is to ensure that every student develops reading, writing, and math skills in ways that are meaningful to their individual lives and experiences. Our staff works together to understand each learner and find appropriate ways to assess and improve their progress. We then make sure that students can apply what they have learned in productive ways in school and in their community.<\/p>\n<h2>Common Core State Standards<\/h2>\n<p>The curriculum in Milwaukee Public Schools is based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecorestandards.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Common Core State Standards<\/a>. These standards were developed with teachers, school administrators, and experts to prepare all children for college and the workforce.<\/p>\n<h2>Special Education<\/h2>\n<p>MPS serves all children with disabilities, including cognitive, emotional, hearing, learning, physical, speech, and vision disabilities. The school\u2019s special education teachers, regular education teachers, school social worker, school psychologist, and administration work together to meet students\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<p>If you think your child has special education needs, ask your child\u2019s teacher or principal for an evaluation. The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts, to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce.\r\n\r\nThe standards are informed by the highest, most effective models from states across the country and countries around the world, and provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to learn. Consistent standards will provide appropriate benchmarks for all students, regardless of where they live.\r\n\r\nThese standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs. The standards:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Are aligned with college and work expectations;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Are clear, understandable and consistent;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards;<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Are informed by other top performing countries, so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society; and<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Are evidence-based.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) Program<\/h2>\r\nThe <a href=\"https:\/\/dpi.wi.gov\/sage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AGR Program<\/a> replaced the Student Achievement Guarantee in Education program (SAGE) at the end of the 2017-18 school year.
