David Galarza is from Guanica, Puerto Rico, and has wanted to become a doctor since he was young. He began that journey in college, earning a bachelor’s degree in Biology. During his college years, Mr. Galarza found himself always explaining lessons to his classmates and tutoring others. He noticed that those he helped often performed better than he did, and it was then that something clicked for him—he realized he could pursue teaching. The most rewarding part of teaching for Mr. Galarza is seeing students succeed and witnessing their breakthroughs.

He has been working in Milwaukee Public Schools since 1999, and he has been at Pulaski for the past six years. He considers it an honor to be part of the school, which offers a unique program. Pulaski is the only high school in the state that provides the IB MYP for bilingual students. Mr. Galarza believes that the IB framework helps students develop problem-solving, collaboration, and lifelong learning skills.

Being an educator is very important to Mr. Galarza, but his culture and sense of community are also fundamental to his identity. As a family man, his family is his rock. Growing up in Puerto Rico, he developed a love for baseball and volleyball, with volleyball being his favorite sport. He considers himself a decent player. His science background has always stayed with him, and he still enjoys reading science articles, with Biology remaining his favorite subject.
