Junior Achievement of Wisconsin<\/h2>\n

We have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program, which inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, field trips, and other resources to share lessons on leadership, career preparation, money management, and more. Lessons are organized according to the Milwaukee Public Schools Social Studies curriculum and are implemented in K5 classrooms, continuing through sixth grade.<\/p>\n

Learning Journeys<\/h2>\n

Learning Journeys<\/a> are educational field trips for all MPS students that are designed to take what students are learning in the classroom out into the real world. These annual opportunities aim to expand students\u2019 career awareness (K3\u2013grade 3) and help them explore potential careers (grades 4 and 5).<\/p>\n

Nature\u2019s Classroom Institute and Montessori School<\/h2>\n

Fourth- through sixth-grade students spend one week each year at the Nature\u2019s Classroom Institute and Montessori School. Students, guides, and parent chaperones embark on an educational excursion through the natural and agricultural world during the institute\u2019s Overnight Adventures program.<\/p>\n

Playworks Wisconsin<\/h2>\n

Playworks Wisconsin provides students with foundational skills for success on the playground, in the classroom, and in the community. They are the leading organization that leverages play to promote healthy behaviors and increase social and emotional learning, at recess and throughout the school day.<\/p>\n

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports<\/h2>\n

To promote positive student behavior and improve learning, MPS uses a system of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PBIS is a three-tiered approach that begins by teaching expectations and encouraging collaboration and consistency in classrooms. Teachers and students co-design agreements and routines that align with three districtwide expectations: \u201cBe Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.\u201d For students who need more support, higher tiers offer structure, interventions, and follow-up to address specific concerns.<\/p>\n

After years of use, MPS and other districts across the country are reporting higher student achievement, improved school environments, and fewer classroom disruptions and student suspensions.<\/p>\n

Urban Ecology Center<\/h2>\n

The Neighborhood Environmental Education Project (NEEP) engages classes through field trips to local green spaces that enrich the classroom curriculum. Urban Ecology Center educators engage students through hands-on activities, indoors and outdoors. Students may learn about local habitats, identifying plants, finding signs of animal life, or building forts with classmates! Rain or shine, snow or wind, every trip has a portion outdoors and is engaging for all students and parent chaperones. Urban Ecology Center has outerwear available to borrow so all participants may explore in any weather. There are three Urban Ecology Center locations; most schools partner with one less than two miles from their school.<\/p>\n
