Students are asked to reflect on the powerful words of civil rights icon Rosa Parks:\u00a0<i>\u201cEach person must live their life as a model for others.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0Essays are evaluated by a panel of judges, and three students are selected to receive a\u00a0<b>$1,000 scholarship<\/b>\u00a0in recognition of their thoughtful reflections on leadership, courage, and community impact.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">Jacqueline was selected alongside two other Milwaukee County seniors as one of the\u00a0<b>2026 scholarship recipients<\/b>, an honor that highlights her voice, perspective, and commitment to making a difference in her community.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">MCTS President and CEO\u00a0<b>Steve Fuentes<\/b>\u00a0praised the winners for embodying the spirit of the scholarship.<\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"x_elementToProof\">\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">\u201cRosa Parks\u2019 legacy continues to remind us that leadership begins with everyday actions and moral courage,\u201d Fuentes said. \u201cThese students exemplify those values, and we are proud to support them as they continue their educational journeys.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">The scholarship recipients are recognized in honor of\u00a0<b>Transit Equity Day<\/b>, celebrated on February 4, the birthday of Rosa Parks. The day highlights the important role public transportation plays in advancing civil rights and ensuring equitable access to opportunity. Parks\u2019 courageous refusal to give up her seat on a segregated bus helped spark the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a pivotal moment in the American civil rights movement that led to lasting changes in transportation policy.<\/div>\n<div class=\"x_elementToProof\">MCTS also commemorates Parks\u2019 legacy each year on December 1, the anniversary of her arrest, by reserving a seat on every bus in its fleet.
