This partnership is motivating in the classroom and helps reinforce healthy academic and social and emotional development when students are away from school.<\/p>\n<p>We implement Milwaukee Public Schools Family &amp; Community Engagement framework so families and staff can collaborate to support individual student achievement and overall school progress.<\/p>\n<h2>Family and Staff Communication<\/h2>\n<p>Parent-teacher conferences happen twice a year. Conferences are an opportunity to get to know your child\u2019s teacher and stay up to date on their progress. Teachers send progress reports home, and we will always do our best to honor parent and family requests for additional conferences, meetings, or reports. A phone call or a brief note is appreciated if you can\u2019t make a scheduled conference time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collect current school and teacher contact information at the beginning of each school year. You can connect through our Parent Center, open during school hours. Reach out to Parent Coordinator Rubie Mizell at <a href=\"mailto:mizellrn@milwaukee.k12.wi.us\">mizellrn@milwaukee.k12.wi.us<\/a> or ask the main office to direct you to the parent center.<\/p>\n<h2>School Engagement Council (SEC)<\/h2>\n<p>Join our SEC to learn more about Roosevelt\u2019s attendance, budget, and academic goals. Families and staff meet monthly to review our school\u2019s progress. SEC members make decisions and revise plans to support student success.\u00a0Our SEC meets at 10 a.m. on the last Monday of every month unless otherwise noted.<\/p>\n<h2>District Advisory Council (DAC)<\/h2>\n<p>Families can stay informed on and share ideas about the district\u2019s Title I programs and priorities during monthly council meetings. Each school sends two delegates to meetings; alternates may attend as well.<\/p>\n<h2>Events and Celebrations<\/h2>\n<p>Scholars shine and families connect through school traditions and celebrations like our annual fall dinner theater, spring musical, and open house events.<\/p>\n<h2>Supporting Your Child During the School Day<\/h2>\n<p>Family involvement leads to better grades, better attendance, improved test scores, higher self-esteem, and better behavior for children. Supporting your child\u2019s success includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Making sure your child arrives at school on time every day (9:05 a.m.).\u202fRemind your child that punctuality is important throughout the day, and they should be on time for every class.<\/li>\n<li>Calling the attendance line when your child will be absent, at (414) 267-8800. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with any who are absent. We must also record absences correctly.<\/li>\n<li>Complete your <a href=\"https:\/\/mpsmke.com\/mpsvolapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milwaukee Public Schools volunteer application<\/a> to become a Roosevelt volunteer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Supporting Your Child\u2019s Education at Home<\/h2>\n<p>Supporting your child\u2019s learning at home can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring that your child gets the proper amount of sleep every night\u202fand eats right. It is important that our students be prepared to take on their day. By caring for your child\u2019s physical, emotional, and mental health, you are ensuring that your child is ready to succeed in school.<\/li>\n<li>Setting realistic expectations.\u202fIt is always important to set standards to ensure that children are working towards attaining a goal. Make sure that these standards are realistic and attainable. By setting expectations, we can hold our students accountable for their education.<\/li>\n<li>Reaching out.\u202fWe understand that there are often obstacles that affect families. We are here to help. If you would like to talk to a\u202fschool counselor, psychologist, or social worker, please reach out. This year we will be selling Gold C Books. There will also be some Entertainment Books for sale in the PTO office. We need chair people to organize and run this important fundraiser.<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Book Fairs<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">These are held twice a year and last a whole week each time. Parent volunteers are needed during the day and during the evenings to help sell books.<\/span>\r\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Box Tops for Education<\/span><\/h3>\r\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">General Mills products offer money for each box top label collected. Just trim, bundle, fill out a form and mail them in once or twice a school year.
