Paying close attention to enrollment dates and details will increase your student’s chances of becoming a Rufus King General.
Admissions Criteria
Families apply to district high schools during their student’s eighth-grade year. MPS high schools that receive more freshman applications than they have available seats use a points-based admissions system to fill ninth-grade seats.
- MPS families receive a letter in September that explains their eighth grader’s preliminary admissions score. Use this information to help your child select their first-choice school.
- Admission scores are based on student attendance, writing activity, report card, and standardized test results in English language arts and math.
- Rufus King International High School requires a minimum of five points per student.
Review MPS Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the application process. Information about high school enrollment criteria, including the essay requirement, is available online.
If you do not choose a school during the high school enrollment period, MPS will enroll your child in a school based on their current academic program or neighborhood school.
Step One
Learn more about Rufus King International High School by attending our fall open house.
Step Two
Select up to five schools, district-wide. Rank them in order of preference. Rank your top or first-choice school number one. Students will be automatically enrolled in the highest-ranked school whose admission criteria they meet.
Step Three
Students who attend MPS in seventh grade:
Submit your completed high school application. Families don’t need to submit additional information or documents because your child’s academic, attendance, and assessment information is already in our system.
Students who attend a non-MPS school in seventh grade:
Please provide the following information with your application:
- Seventh-grade attendance data (number of days absent and number of days in the school year)
- Seventh-grade report card
- Seventh-grade standardized test results (WI Forward Exam individual student report if available; other standardized tests may be used if the WI Forward is not available)
Step Four
Enjoy eighth grade! Families will be notified in December.
