Activities

South Division is home to more than a dozen student clubs, cultural groups, and service organizations and Milwaukee City Conference athletic teams.
Whether students are rehearsing lam vong dance for a cultural celebration or pressing for policy change with youth leaders city-wide, their extracurricular participation provides relevant, real-world experience in multicultural collaboration and communication, setting and achieving goals, fundraising and budgeting, advocacy, and more.

African and Asian Spiritual Connection Club

The AASCC creates community and educational and social and emotional learning opportunities for African and Asian students who practice Islam. The club has collaborated with the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition.

Anime Club

Read new manga titles (graphic novels, comic books) in our Library Media Center, attend the MPS manga convention, and find other ways to explore this Japanese cultural export that is popular worldwide.

Black and Latino Male Achievement (BLMA)

The vision of this program is to ensure that Black and Latino boys and young men will possess an affirmed sense of identity, dignity, and self-confidence, and will have the necessary tools to triumphantly navigate K-12, college, career, and life.

Black Student Union

Students create community, engage in service opportunities, and actively participate in school culture and climate as BSU members. The Black Student Union is a key player in the Black History Month program, and its members can be found volunteering at the local food bank, coordinating clean-ups around South Division, and organizing other events.

Cardinal Writers Club

The Cardinal Writers’ Club celebrates the joy of writing, with emphasis on fun, creativity, variety, and self-expression.

City Year Milwaukee, Tutoring

Typically held twice weekly for students in any subject or grade, tutoring services are available in English or Spanish. South Division and City Year provide snacks and bus cards (while supplies last).

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)

The FCCLA club meets during the school day and includes learning proper food management and preparation as well as educational leadership that includes cultural sharing and public speaking. Students should ask a classroom teacher about joining FCCLA.

GSA

For students who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as allies! This club aims to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting school environment for all youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

HOSA (Future Health Professionals)

HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership. South Division’s HOSA is part of the MPS HOSA chapter and meets biweekly during school.

Latinx Student Union

Union members create community and learning opportunities for Latinx students as well as allies. LSU often hosts an event or two during the school year and engages in community events, especially around Hispanic Heritage Month, Puerto Rico Discovery Day, and Día de los Muertos.

Math Club

Three of South Division’s awesome math teachers created the Math Club. The Math Club aims to motivate students to strengthen their math skills, explore careers related to math, enhance their math problem-solving skills and knowledge base, and have fun working with math.

MultiCultural Club

Come learn dances of any and all cultures! As a diverse school with students from all over the world and city, South Division hosts MCC to promote culture through dance! Our students practice dances, which they perform at events across the city and state. All dancers, beginner to advanced, are welcome and dance styles of all cultures and genres are celebrated.

National Honor Society

Seniors can apply for membership in South Division’s National Honor Society (NHS) chapter. Leadership roles and service projects help South Division NHS members prepare for college and citizenship as they work with school administrators and community groups on voter registration, awareness campaigns, and other service projects.

South Bike Club

Started in 2023 with eight bikes and some gear, the South Bike Club aims to help students ride bikes safely in the city and on trails. Students can join Bike Club after school when weather permits.

Table Tennis Club

Come explore the sport of table tennis! All students, even those who have never picked up a paddle, are welcome to join this casual after-school club.

Youth Council

Interested in being engaged in your school community and its improvement? Join South Division’s Community School Youth Council (known as the student discipline committee in other high schools). Our goals are to learn how to analyze problems, find root causes, research best practices, and propose realistic solutions — all while building community and having fun!
