The Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) Program<\/a> supports Wisconsin schools working to close the achievement gap for kindergarten through third-grade students from low-income backgrounds. Schools that receive AGR funding offer extra academic and instructional support, which can include:<\/p>\n Learning Journeys<\/a> are educational field trips for all MPS students that are designed to take what students are learning in the classroom out into the real world. These annual opportunities aim to expand students\u2019 career awareness (K3\u2013grade 3) and help them explore potential careers (grades 4, 5, and 8).<\/p>\n To promote positive student behavior and improve learning, MPS uses a system of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n PBIS is a three-tiered approach that begins by teaching expectations and encouraging collaboration and consistency in classrooms. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)<\/h2>\r\nPBIS<\/a> is a joint effort between Milwaukee Public Schools Office of Family Services and the Milwaukee Teachers\u2019 Education Association to effectively reduce classroom disruptions and student suspensions through a school-wide systematic tiered-intervention approach. Data shows that schools that implement PBIS with fidelity see decreases in disruptions and suspensions and increases in student achievement.\r\n
Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) Program<\/h2>\r\nThe AGR Program<\/a> replaced the Student Achievement Guarantee in Education program (SAGE) at the end of the 2017-18 school year. The AGR program requires a participating school to create performance objectives, including reducing the achievement gap between low\u2212income students in that school and students in the same grade and subject statewide.\r\n
