Welcome to Starms Early Childhood Center where we proudly serve our vibrant community of 3, 4, and 5-year-old learners. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning for another joyful year, we are thrilled to have you as part of our Starms family.<\/p>\n

At Starms, we believe that early childhood is a time of wonder, growth, and endless possibilities. Our classrooms are places where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to explore the world around them. Guided by our STARMS values of being Supportive, Thoughtful, Appreciative, Respectful, Motivating, and Strong, we create a nurturing environment where every child is empowered to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.<\/p>\n

As part of our commitment to excellence, we are focused on increasing achievement in reading and math, striving for at least 95% daily attendance, and ensuring that all students follow our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible. These goals reflect our belief that every child deserves a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.<\/p>\n

Our dedicated educators are passionate about nurturing each child\u2019s unique potential through play-based learning, creative expression, and meaningful relationships. While we focus on building strong foundations in academics and social-emotional development, we also celebrate the joy and curiosity that young children bring to every experience.<\/p>\n

In addition, we recognize the importance of family partnerships in a child\u2019s educational journey. We look forward to working closely with you, sharing in your child\u2019s milestones, and building a community rooted in trust, collaboration, and care.<\/p>\n

Born in Tampico, Mexico, and raised in Milwaukee, I have worked with Milwaukee Public Schools for 22 years as a teacher, member of the School Improvement Team, special assistant to the Deputy Superintendent, and assistant principal at Bradley Tech High School.\r\n\r\nWe believe that families are our partners. Research has shown that family participation in their children\u2019s educational experience leads to higher grades, better attendance, increased test scores, higher self-esteem and fewer disciplinary interventions. We believe family members are a special and unique part of our learning community, and that collaboration and communication between families and educators are critical to our students\u2019 success.\r\n\r\nAlong with parents, community partners who support Starms\u2019 educational centers are integral to our success. Fostering these relationships and working collaboratively toward a shared vision ensures our ongoing achievements.\r\n\r\nFounded by pioneering early childhood educator Frances Brock Starms, Starms Early Childhood Center invests all of its resources in educating children in K3, K4, and K5, helping them develop lifelong habits of responsibility, creativity and problem-solving while becoming strong communicators. Our highly trained staff makes learning fun!\r\n\r\nAnd data shows that Starms Discovery Learning Center is a school on the rise! Our overall scores have increased on each of our last four Wisconsin DPI school report cards. On the 2020-21 report card, our \u201cGrowth\u201d score \u2014 which indicates how much student knowledge of reading and mathematics changes from year to year \u2014 was significantly higher than Wisconsin\u2019s overall state score. What does that mean? It means that great things are happening at Starms DLC.\r\n\r\nIn closing, I am excited to continue to work alongside our family members, community partners and staff to provide a safe, enriching educational experience for all learners, and I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss ideas, answer questions, or just to chat!
