Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program Grant, Stuart School is increasing the representation of students from underrepresented backgrounds. Students receive individualized learning opportunities and support so they can reach their fullest potential.

Learning Journeys

Learning Journeys are educational field trips for all MPS students that are designed to take what students are learning in the classroom out into the real world. These annual opportunities aim to expand students’ career awareness (K4–grade 3) and help them explore potential careers (grades 4 and 5).

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

To promote positive student behavior and improve learning, MPS uses a system of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

PBIS is a three-tiered approach that begins by teaching expectations and encouraging collaboration and consistency in classrooms. Teachers and students co-design agreements and routines that align with three districtwide expectations: “Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.” For students who need more support, higher tiers offer structure, interventions, and follow-up to address specific concerns.

After years of use, MPS and other districts across the country are reporting higher student achievement, improved school environments, and fewer classroom disruptions and student suspensions.

United Nations Schools of International Learning

Students develop research, writing, and presentation skills while studying world affairs and current events in this landmark program, which offers a combined Model UN/World Studies curriculum to more than a dozen Milwaukee Public Schools. Fourth graders study nations that are UN member countries. Fifth graders participate in Model UN activities. We have students from many different countries including Thailand, Nigeria, Somalia, Burma, Congo, Liberia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Uganda.

Stuart has a very dedicated ESL teacher and a Para-Professional along with student teachers who work with our diverse population. In this program they are taught the English language along with the American culture. These students never lose sight of their own culture and are encouraged to share their cultural traditions with our whole school.

See Us (Gifted-Talented) Program

Fall of 2018 Stuart was chosen by the district to become a "See Us" school. The See Us (National Association for Gifted Children) Program is to support those who enhance the growth and development of gifted and talented children through education, advocacy, community building, and research. The program aims to help parents and families, and teachers work collaboratively to help gifted and talented children as they strive to achieve their personal best and contribute to their communities.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

PBIS is a joint effort between Milwaukee Public Schools Office of Family Services and the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association to effectively reduce classroom disruptions and student suspensions through a school-wide systematic tiered-intervention approach.
