Free Lead Testing for Westside Academy students (at Douglas Middle School)

As part of our ongoing work to monitor student safety, the district will offer lead testing for Westside Academy students. This testing will show whether children have elevated levels of lead in their bloodstream.

The testing for Westside Academy students will take place on Thursday, June 5 at Douglas Middle School. Children’s Wisconsin will be on site to conduct the testing.

Lead testing is done through a finger prick. A health care provider then collects a few drops of blood to be used for the test. Test results will be shared with families when completed.

The Milwaukee Health Department recommends that all students in your child’s school be tested for lead. Young children can develop health issues when they have elevated levels of lead. This test will let you know whether your child’s lead exposure falls within acceptable ranges or whether further monitoring or treatment is needed.

We need your consent to test your child. Please fill out the attached consent form and return it to your child’s school by Friday, May 30.

Thank you in advance for ensuring that your child will take part in this important health screening.
