Activities

Westside Academy students can participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and showcases focused on the arts, athletics, community service, and more.

Our teachers, coaches, and parent volunteers take extracurricular activities seriously because they help students explore career interests, develop new talents and skills, and make friends. Students who represent Westside Academy out in the community also get a taste of leadership experience and develop stronger school pride!

Contact our parent coordinator, Tjuna Eggson, at eggsontc@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or your child’s teacher to learn more about extracurricular activities.

Arts & Entertainment

Arts @ Large

Arts @ Large supports the vision of bringing the arts to schools. Our students engage in a variety of visual and performing arts aligned projects to enhance their educational experience. Students participate in various arts-related activities to nurture their creativity and promote social-emotional development. Activities include dance and movement, music, and art class.

Black Arts MKE

Black Arts MKE works with many of the city’s most talented professional artists to bring multi-disciplinary arts residencies to youth during after-school hours in elementary and middle schools. Culturally relevant performing arts residencies are designed to help youth express their creativity and take risks while learning important social-emotional skills. Black Arts MKE reaches Milwaukee schools in underserved, under-resourced neighborhoods and serves primarily African American youth. Over 15,000 youth and their families have been served through Black Arts MKE programming.

Leadership & Service

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast provides friendship, adventure, give back opportunities, leadership, new skills, and fun for Girl Scouts in grades K5-12. As a Girl Scout, you can discover what you’re passionate about, take fun trips, and find the space to unapologetically be yourself with a squad ready to cheer you on.

Green Team

The Westside Academy Green Team are official caretakers and ambassadors of our redeveloped schoolyard. Teachers and students in second-grade classrooms weed, collect trash, keep an eye on plant health, water and harvest crops in our raised-bed gardens. Ask the team for a tour or a gaga ball demonstration. Opened in fall 2023, the gaga ball pit is a popular rec spot for all ages.
