Danceworks Mad Hot Rhythm
Danceworks Mad Hot Rhythm inspires our students to move their bodies and work together to create performing art. Participation in Mad Hot Rhythm helps our students boost their self-confidence and creativity, respect and work well with others, and learn that creative movement feels great!
Junior Achievement of Wisconsin
We have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program, which inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, thought leadership, and other resources to support age-appropriate learning about leadership, jobs, money, and more. Lessons are organized according to the Milwaukee Public Schools Social Studies curriculum and are implemented in K5 classrooms, continuing through eighth grade.
Milwaukee County Zoo Animal Ambassadors
Second, third, and fourth graders develop a deep understanding of the relationship among humans, animals, and our environment through classroom lessons, Milwaukee County Zoo field trips, and in conversation with Zoo educators (animal experts). The program ends with a celebration of conservation for new “animal ambassadors.”
Playworks Wisconsin
In 2023, Playworks Wisconsin ensured more than 23,000 children in 64 elementary schools and youth serving organizations across Wisconsin – including Westside Academy – experienced safe and healthy play, including more than 700 educators and youth professionals trained statewide. Over 1,000 Wisconsin kids serve as Junior Coach student leaders on the playground by leading games and modeling positive sporting behavior for their peers.
SHARP Literacy
SHARP Literacy uses the visual arts to engage young minds and reinforce learning to help students become confident, capable readers, writers and researchers. Providing students with opportunities to develop a wide range of skills – reading, writing, oral communications, research, creative thinking and problem solving – SHARP creates a solid foundation for future learning and success. On pre-and post-vocabulary tests, SHARP students improve their literacy skills between 40 and 70 percent.
