Other Programs

At Allen-Field School, our diverse programs are designed to support academic achievement, health and safety, leadership development, social-emotional skills, and more.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

This federally funded program supports student and community health by increasing the volume and variety of fruits and vegetables that children are introduced to. Twice a week, students receive fresh fruits and veggies as a snack (separate from breakfast and lunch). The program also teaches them about nutrition.

Gifted and Talented

Students receive individualized learning opportunities and support so they can reach their fullest potential.

Leadership Program (Grades 3–5)

At Allen-Field School, our Leadership Program gives students the opportunity to shine. Each month, every classroom chooses a “Student of the Month” to be recognized for their achievements. Selected leaders receive red blazers to wear throughout the month so they’re easy to spot in the hallways. Students build confidence, grow their leadership skills, and get the opportunity to take on special responsibilities around the school.

Learning Journeys

Learning Journeys are educational field trips for all MPS students that are designed to take what students are learning in the classroom out into the real world. These annual opportunities aim to expand students’ career awareness (K4–grade 3) and help them explore potential careers (grades 4 and 5).

Milwaukee Ballet’s Relevé Program

Students in second, third, and fourth grade have the opportunity to participate in this year-long ballet training program through weekly classes. The program aims to give them a foundation of ballet training for continued study or for pursuit of areas like music, theater, or sports. Students in the Relevé program showcase their growth during a spring performance that is beloved by students and families alike. They are eligible to receive scholarships to attend classes through Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy.

Neighborhood Environmental Education Project (NEEP) at the Urban Ecology Center

Students visit the Urban Ecology Center (UEC) for field experiences. Through UEC’s Neighborhood Environmental Education Project (NEEP), classes visit local green spaces to learn from UEC educators through hands-on activities. Students may explore local habitats, identify plants, find signs of animal life, or even build forts with classmates! Every trip has a portion outdoors and is engaging for all students and parent chaperones. All three centers have outerwear available to borrow for all participants to explore in any weather.

Positive Behaviors Interventions & Supports (PBIS)

To promote positive student behavior and improve learning, MPS uses a system of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

PBIS is a three-tiered approach that begins by teaching expectations and encouraging collaboration and consistency in classrooms. Teachers and students co-design agreements and routines that align with three districtwide expectations: “Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.” For students who need more support, higher tiers offer structure, interventions, and follow-up to address specific concerns.

After years of use, MPS and other districts across the country are reporting higher student achievement, improved school environments, and fewer classroom disruptions and student suspensions.

Second Step

Second Step is a learning program that promotes social-emotional competence and self-regulation. Students discover how to cope with challenges, manage emotions, create positive relationships, and succeed both socially and academically.

Water Safety Program

Through this Milwaukee Recreation program, each of our third-grade classrooms visits the nearby South Division High School pool for four swimming lessons. Before and after the in-person lessons, a Water Safety Instructor visits the students in their classroom. The instructor prepares them for the experience, educates students on pool rules, and conducts a pre-test and post-test. The final classroom visit also includes a literacy activity for students to write about their experiences at the pool.
