About

Forest Home Avenue School is an award-winning bilingual learning community for K3 to fifth-grade students.

Our historic southside school welcomes teachers, families, and community partners who invest in our nearly 600 students through an innovative and creative STEM-centered curriculum. Teachers integrate math, engineering, and technology content across all subject areas, inspiring students to grow as learners and leaders from small classrooms for younger grades to service opportunities for older students.

School Hours

Forest Home scholars achieve major academic milestones – and develop an appreciation for our vibrant multicultural community – during daily literacy, math, and STEM lessons in bilingual (Spanish/English) or monolingual classrooms.

Our students earn state recognition for their accomplishments in math, reading, and behavior, including 2022-23 silver-level recognition from the Wisconsin Response to Intervention Center.

Creativity is built into the curriculum, which includes weekly art, physical education, and music classes. Teachers and parents host after-school clubs that beautify and build our school community as students explore dancing, gardening, art-making, and more.

Family, celebration, and service are points of pride, school-wide. Many Forest Home teachers are also alumni who send their children (even grandchildren!) to the school. Parent coordinator Maria Hernandez hosts ESL classes and other events for families. Parents join the School Engagement and District Advisory councils. Fourth and fifth graders run for student council, train as peer mentors in the school’s Black & Latino Male Achievement Buddies program, and volunteer in the on-site food pantry.

Principal Brad Christensen is counting down the days until the school’s redeveloped schoolyard and outdoor classrooms open in autumn 2024. Mascot Forest E. Eagle will host the school’s annual carnival in the schoolyard in June 2025. The carnival is a final, festive recognition of everything Forest Home students accomplish before they enroll in prestigious neighborhood public schools like Wedgewood Park International School and Reagan High School.

School Community Partnership for Mental Health

Since 2009, the School Community Partnership for Mental Health (SCPMH) has provided intensive, on-site mental wellness programs and mental health services to students and families in Milwaukee Public Schools. The partnership began in just four schools and has expanded to nearly 40 schools, including Forest Home Avenue School.

Before & After School Program

A designated Milwaukee Public Schools Safe Place, the Milwaukee Christian Center Youth Development Program provides before- and after-school care to K4 through fifth-grade students at Forest Home Avenue School.
