James E. Groppi High School offers many opportunities to get involved and support student success.
District Advisory Council (DAC)
Families can stay informed on and share ideas about the district’s Title I programs and priorities during monthly council meetings. Each school sends two delegates to meetings; alternates may attend as well.
Meetings take place virtually via Zoom on the first Thursday of every month. Learn more and access meetings online.
Parent and Family Resource Center
Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit the Parent and Family Resource Center in Room 115. The center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on school days. Families can access free coffee, community resources, and computers with internet access.

School Engagement Council (SEC)
School spirit and student enrichment are on the agenda for Parent Teacher Associations and Organizations district wide. School policies, procedures, and student well-being are the work of School Engagement Councils, established in Milwaukee Public Schools in 1997.
The James E. Groppi High School Engagement Council brings together families, staff, students (when appropriate), and community members to support and inform shared leadership that can lead to increased student achievement.
Members of the council:
- Analyze school climate, performance, and budgetary issues.
- Advise school faculty and administration on matters affecting curriculum, student performance, and overall student well-being.
The School Engagement Council holds seven meetings each school year from September through April. We are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals who are passionate about education and the future of our students. Families and community members are encouraged to become representatives. To learn more, please contact our parent coordinator, Asha Willis, at [email protected].
Student Support
Family participation is highly encouraged at James E. Groppi High School.
Family involvement leads to improved test scores; higher self-esteem; and better grades, attendance, and behavior for children.
Here’s are some ways to get involved:
- Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day (8:00 a.m. for the morning session and 12:00 p.m. for the afternoon session).
- Call the Groppi attendance line at (414) 934-8200 when your child will be absent. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with anyone who is not there. We must also record absences correctly.
- Help your child with assignments.
- Become a School Engagement Council (SEC) and/or a District Advisory Council (DAC) representative.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences.
- Join us for Groppi’s monthly family engagement events.
For more information about how you can get involved, please contact our parent coordinator, Asha Willis, at [email protected].
