Partnerships

LaFollette School is grateful to our community partners for their ongoing gifts of time, services, resources, creativity, and collaboration.

African Diaspora Council

The African Diaspora Council at UW-Milwaukee is an affinity collective committed to promoting and enhancing a sense of community, equity, and professional and educational development at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and beyond. At LaFollette School, council members organize school and personal-hygiene supply drives and mentor our students.

Children’s Wisconsin

Kids do their best work in the classroom and have the most fun at recess when they’re thriving physically, mentally, and emotionally. School nurses from Children’s Wisconsin help Lafollette staff improve students’ overall health by assessing their needs and finding ways to meet those needs by working with family members, medical providers, social workers, school support staff, and mental and behavioral health professionals. Contact the Lafollette School nurse at Hfischer@chw.org.

Community Health Navigator

Community health navigators from Children’s Wisconsin help connect residents with the right resources at the right time to support wellness and healthy lifestyles. They work to build awareness of neighborhood needs and challenges with a goal of improving health outcomes for children and their families.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority

The Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was chartered in 1945 and has been part of the LaFollette School family since 2018. Known as “Delta Women,” sorority members support our school as literacy volunteers, through school supply drives, and by hosting financial literacy workshops for LaFollette families.

Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan

As LaFollette School’s partner organization through the School Community Partnership for Mental Health, therapists from Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan spend two days per week at LaFollette, working with teachers, the school social worker, psychologist, counselor, and parent coordinator, to get to know students and families. As trusted members of our school community, therapists bring age appropriate, evidence-based wellness workshops and therapies to students and families.

School Community Partnership for Mental Health

Since 2009, the School Community Partnership for Mental Health (SCPMH) has provided intensive, on-site mental wellness programs and mental health services to students and families in Milwaukee Public Schools. The partnership began in just four schools and has now expanded to nearly 40 schools.

Smart Smiles

Ascension Smart Smiles is the largest provider of school-based oral health care in Wisconsin. The Smart Smiles program specializes in preventative oral health of children from birth through adolescence. Smart Smiles dental professionals make twice-yearly visits to LaFollette School, providing free oral health education and screenings, fluoride treatments, placement of sealants, and more.
