VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

TACOS FOR TEACHERS: On Tuesday, March 19th we will again host dinner for our teachers and staff immediately after school – before Conferences. If you are able to make or buy an item to contribute to this meal, or help with setting up or cleaning up, please sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/3x6rm7f6

~Families have been tremendous supporters in the past – your generosity is immensely appreciated, Thank You!

We continue to partner with an outstanding local business, Rainbow Booksellers, to bring a book fair to MacDowell for our students and families. We will host our spring Book Fair on the second night of conferences ONLY, with after-school shopping available on Monday and Wednesday. All families are welcome to visit the fair during any of the posted hours. Rainbow Booksellers brings a wonderful selection of books for our fair and graciously donates 25% of the sales to support our library!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Check slots for specific times – there are daytime and after-school hours available!

Volunteers are essential in making our book fair a great success! We need helpers to set up the fair, to supervise the Book Fair inventory during open circulation time, and also to work as sales assistants and cashiers during the Book Fair. Please take a look at the shifts available and sign up if you can do so. Your time and assistance are greatly appreciated!

The daytime supervision slots were added with the hope that the library can remain open for circulation while the Book Fair is set up. These daytime volunteers would monitor the book fair setup to ensure our inventory count is accurate at the end of the sale.

Thank you!!

Maple Tapping at MacDowell Has Begun

Our Lower Elementary students recently had a lesson with Food Right on how to tap maple trees. Third grade students tapped the trees and 1st-3rd grade students collected the sap. Classrooms will boil down the sap in the future and everyone will get a taste.

High School Trip to Washington DC

Students in 9th-12th grade filled our seats on this year’s Washington D.C. Trip, completely funded by Herb Kohl Philanthropies. 47 students attended this awesome opportunity to see our government in action and get to make connections with the people, institutions, and iconic sites that make up our nation’s past and present.

Girls’ Day at City Hall was created by Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs.

The day-long event includes panel discussions, one with women in elective office and one with women in other public service careers, speakers, and opportunities for active engagement and involvement with several public service-oriented organizations and entities focused on young women and led by women. A Girls’ Day Scholarship and the Vel Phillips Trailblazer Award are also presented.
