MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
COMMUNITY DAY for Middle and High School students – April 26th
What is Community Day? It is a special day for every 7th-12th student to engage in projects that provide service to our community – projects which are in alignment with our Service and Action goals of our Middle Years Program and our Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) goals of our Diploma Program. During this year’s Community Day students will be taking part in a number of different activities such as blanket making for the Humane Society, cleanup at local parks and on our school grounds, making sandwiches, and sorting items for homeless shelters.
**Watch for communication on activities that are off-site which require a permission slip and may require a bagged lunch or money to purchase lunch.
IB LEARNER PROFILE OF THE MONTH
This month we are spotlighting: RISK-TAKER: Students that are risk-takers approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; they work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. They are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.
Octavius Billingsley, 10th grade, was voted this month by MacDowell Staff as a student that has shown what it takes to be a Risk-Taker. He is a class leader who is always eager to learn something new, master that topic, and try new and
different activities that push himself out of his comfort zone. He never complains about presentations, a difficult listening comprehension activity, or reading paragraphs in Spanish. He volunteers to present first, read out loud, work with others who need groups and more. He dives in, asks questions to make sure he is comprehending everything and pushes himself to be his best. He can work well in small groups, large groups, and individually. He is very resourceful and resilient. When he was gone for a wrestling competition, he was a bit stressed and nervous about all that he missed but he did not hesitate to see teachers to get his missing work right away. He studied on his own and was ready to quiz the next day and he worked independently on all work missed.
Congrats Octavius !!
Find this and more in March’s IB Newsletter HERE. A link to the current IB newsletter can always be found in our Quick Links below. March topics include: Middle Years Program (MYP) performance at District Solo and Ensemble Festival, menus and food trucks reflecting a Hispanic country, 9th grade Language Acquisition and Algebra projects, 10th grade Language Acquisition family tree presentations, Mr. Ford’s Geometry 3-dimensional figure construction, a very entertaining Student Q & A, and MUCH MORE!!
