IB UPDATE

IB Learner Profile of the Month

There are 10 learner profile traits which describe a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success. This month we are spotlighting: Inquirer: We nurture our curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. We know how to learn independently and with others. We learn with enthusiasm and sustain our love of learning throughout life.

Octavius Billingsley, 11th grade, was voted this month by staff as a student that has shown what it takes to be an inquirer. He often asks pertinent questions to deepen his understanding of math concepts, particularly as it pertains to real-world applications. He enjoys explaining his thought process and often wonders whether there’s a different approach to problem solving which may be more efficient.

Keep up the great inquiry Octavius!!

General Reminders

COLDER WEATHER: As the season has turned colder, please remember that younger students should have spare clothing for colder weather in their backpack/bookbag. If you have not already done so, now is the time to replace their clothing with warmer weather attire. Please label items.

LOST AND FOUND: Please check the lost and found when you are in the building. Please label items! Light jackets and hoodies are often a large part of our lost and found – labeling these items will help us return lost items to their owner. MacDowell  Spotlight

LOWER ELEMENTARY FOODRIGHT

Our lower elementary classes spent a day in September picking the harvest from our school garden. Ms. Stephani and students harvested 4.2 lbs cherry tomatoes, 3.1 lbs mini roma tomatoes, 3 small eggplants (1/4 lb), 6.8 lbs red potatoes, 8 lbs Yukon gold potatoes and 9 small hot peppers. Many of these ingredients were used to make a Salsa Fresca in their next session, with rave reviews by many students. Find the recipe HERE.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

MacDowell’s middle school cross country team has been working hard and growing in confidence over the last few weeks. Each member of the team has grown in both speed and stamina and most importantly in believing in themselves.  All 39 kids on the team have been practicing hard which is paying off for their weekly meets. They are an impressive group of kids!!

YOU CAN GET A WISCONSIN STATE ID CARD FOR FREE

To get a free ID card, you will need to take a few documents to your Division of Motor Vehicles office

There’s a long list of documents you can use below, but most people will be fine with a certified birth certificate, a Social Security card and a utility bill or cell phone bill. You’ll notice that some records, like a certified birth certificate, satisfy more than one category.

Just be sure to bring originals — photocopies don’t work — and check the box that says “ID for Free” on your application. Once it’s complete, you’ll get a receipt that you can use at the polls until your state ID arrives by mail.

For more information about getting a free state ID card, visit the Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles website.
