Athletics

To participate in MacDowell (K-8) and Juneau (high school) athletics at MacDowell Montessori School, students must:
  • Be an enrolled, full-time student at MacDowell Montessori School,
  • Submit all athletic forms before the season begins,
  • Maintain academic eligibility as determined by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (for high-school athletes).

Juneau Pioneers High School Athletics

MacDowell students proudly compete as Juneau Pioneers at the junior-varsity and varsity levels, or as members of cooperative teams combining athletes from two or more Milwaukee City Conference schools.

Please help your child complete the electronic registration process for Juneau athletics by signing and submitting the following documents and information on the Milwaukee City Conference Student-Athlete Registration Portal:

  • Athletic fee
  • Athletic permit card
  • Code of Conduct
  • Concussion Agreement forms
  • Family and student info: Name, address, chosen activity, emergency contact
  • Physical exam form, completed by medical professional
  • Proof of Insurance (pic of front/back of card); option to purchase from K&K Insurance for sports season if needed
  • Student-Athlete Handbook
  • Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association eligibility forms

Milwaukee Public Schools has partnered with Concentra health care services to provide physical exams for high-school athletes, or you may work with your child’s current medical provider. Athletes may participate in only one sport per season. There are three seasons each school year: fall, winter, spring.

Advice for High-School Athletes

In high school, student-athletes are expected to attend practice every day and stay on top of academics. Students should notify their coach ahead of time if they cannot make a practice.

Shuttle bus transportation will be provided to the practice location. Bus tickets will be provided to get home. To get home, athletes may choose one of the following options – get a ride, take the city bus from the practice site using the provided ticket, or take the shuttle bus back to MacDowell and travel home from there.

To join one of the interscholastic athletic teams at MacDowell/Juneau, a student should attend the first organizational meeting held for the sport. In most cases, all students who wish to join a team may do so. If a student has expressed an interest in a particular sport, the student’s name will be given to that coach. If a student is not able to attend the organizational meeting, they may contact MacDowell Montessori athletic director Amanda Schenk at schenkao@milwaukee.k12.wi.us to express interest in a sport and she will contact the participating coach.
