Welcome to MacDowell Montessori, one of the nation’s only public Montessori K12 schools.
Our students stay with us through many years, building community, learning who they are, and finding their place in the world as they advance to MacDowell’s rigorous International Baccalaureate/Montessori middle and high-school programs. Our teachers are certified, experienced educators guiding students as they discover their true purpose. Our creative, hands-on curricula inspire students to cultivate skills and abilities necessary to meet the challenges of college, career, and global citizenship.
Our dual IB/Montessori approach is new, yet our school is deeply rooted in Milwaukee history. Students learn regional history and geography in nearby parks, nature preserves, and museums. Creative leaders present visual and performing arts experiences to MacDowell students during classroom and after-school hours. Our student athletes lead and succeed, from swim lessons in older elementary classes to beginner- through varsity-level sports. Mentors include coaches, community groups like PEARLS and Big Brothers Big Sisters, and older students who help teach younger classmates in our multiage classrooms. Academic achievement includes “Meets Expectations” status on our report card (2021-22 and 2022-23), and high levels of student participation in pre-professional internships and trades apprenticeships. Families contribute as members of the MacDowell School Engagement Council and district-wide Montessori Advisory Committee.
