About

Milwaukee Sign Language School (MSLS) is a supportive, bilingual environment that is open to ALL students in Milwaukee, including children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Grades

K4–8th Grade

School Hours

9:10 a.m. – 4:10 p.m.

We follow a traditional elementary and middle school curriculum with English language arts, math, reading, science, social studies, and more. Along the way, every student learns American Sign Language (ASL) as part of the school day through our bilingual mindset.

We offer many supports and resources to navigate students’ educational journeys. These include a Chromebook for every child, as well as small class sizes in grades K5 to three to increase individual attention. Many of our teachers are fluent in ASL to better support students who are deaf or hard of hearing. ASL interpreters are also on staff to attend classes and provide translation services. We are committed to doing everything we can to make sure all students are able to succeed!

MSLS believes in:

  • Cultural diversity, with a special emphasis on Deaf culture and American Sign Language
  • Respect for all members of the community
  • High expectations to meet the individual needs of students
  • A collaborative learning community
  • High-quality instruction aligned to the Common Core State Standards
