Extracurricular activities help students explore career interests, develop new talents and skills, and make friends. Students who represent Zablocki School in the community gain leadership experience and develop stronger school pride!
Contact our school’s parent coordinator or your child’s teacher to learn more about these opportunities.

Great Kindness Challenge (GKC)
The GKC gives every student an opportunity to model kindness and develop key social-emotional skills that are vital for school and life success. The GKC offers a checklist to use during school and a continuum of kindness by offering home connections through a family edition of the checklist. Our Youth Leadership Team planned a school-wide spirit week to mark Zablocki’s sixth year participating in the Great Kindness Challenge, from popcorn prizes and parachute games to special morning announcements.
Green Team
Third graders devote Wednesday lunch and recess time to practicing the three “Rs:” reduce, recycle, reuse. As members of the Green Team, they help care for their redeveloped schoolyard through planting, weeding, and communication projects that support Zablocki School’s health and wellness priorities.
KK River Explorers
Sixteenth Street Community Health Center’s KK River Explorers after-school program is a completely free and bilingual program for third through fifth graders at Lincoln Avenue and Zablocki schools. They spend time outside and follow a curriculum that meets Wisconsin Academic Standards for environmental literacy and sustainability. KK River Explorers runs for 11 weeks in both the spring and fall, with nature-based activities on-site at school and field trips to different green and blue spaces around Milwaukee. They also partner with other local non-profits, such as Milwaukee Riverkeeper, for on-site lessons.
Zablocki Walks
From 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of most months, Zablocki families, students, staff, and neighbors meet at the front of our school for a health and wellness walk. All are welcome to join us for this leisurely one-mile stroll in our school neighborhood as we build community, get healthy together, and learn about pedestrian safety. Wear your Zablocki or Milwaukee spirit gear. This walk is led by community liaison officers from Milwaukee Police Department’s District Six.
Youth Leadership Team
Fourth and fifth graders meet weekly to plan activities and events that boost academic engagement school-wide and nurture Zablocki’s safe and welcoming environment. Ask them about the annual Great Kindness Challenge spirit week!
