Activities

Many clubs and organizations are available at Bay View High School—and there is always an opportunity to form new groups!

DECA

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. After a few years away, Bay View’s DECA chapter is back! Students explore business, entrepreneurship, and hospitality through hands-on projects and competitions at the regional and state levels. No experience is needed—just curiosity and creativity.

GSA Club

GSA is open all to students who are supportive of people who identify as LGBTQ+. The group acts as a safe space for students to discuss relevant topics, advocate for student rights, learn about community resources, and simply just hang out.

GSA meetings take place every Tuesday at lunchtime in Room 202 (at the end of the hallway past the library). Please join the BVHS GSA Google Classroom for more information about meetings.

The Oracle

From winning national awards in the 1920s to interviewing First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in 1936, our school newspaper, The Oracle, recently celebrated more than a century of student journalism. Today’s students continue its proud legacy by writing, photographing, and designing stories to highlight what’s happening in the Bay View community.

Robotics Club

The Bay View Robotics Club is open to all students interested in building, programming, and competing with robots. The team participates in FIRST Tech Challenge and SkillsUSA’s Urban Search & Rescue competitions, learning 3D modeling, coding, marketing, mechanical design, and teamwork along the way. Students gain real engineering experience, meet industry mentors, and prepare for future careers—all in a fun, supportive environment (with snacks!). Meetings take place after school twice a week (on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.) in Rooms 18 and 19.

Student Government Association (SGA)

Philosophy: Students should be responsible for as many situations as they show themselves capable of handling.

The Student Government Association (SGA) began at Bay View High School during World War II and is still active today. The SGA serves as a link between administration, faculty, and the student body so everyone can work together for the betterment of the school. It is comprised of two main branches:

  • The Executive Student Board
  • The Senate

SGA Committees

All committees of the SGA report to the Student Board. Each committee includes a member of the Board. The following is a list of the current permanent committees; temporary committees may be appointed throughout the year to do special jobs or investigate special subjects.

Election Committee

The Election Committee oversees all SGA elections throughout the school year, including Homecoming and Prom Courts. Copies of election procedures are available in the SGA Office.

Public Relations Committee

This committee informs students about SGA and community activities, as well as other concerns. The committee at times assists other school organizations in publicizing noteworthy events. They maintain three large bulletin boards, in addition many smaller bulletin boards throughout the building.

Homecoming Activities Committee

This committee plans and executes all aspects of the Homecoming parade in the fall. Members handle promotion, registration, arrangement of units and the sending of special invitations prior to the parade. They also manage the parade order and coordinate the judging on parade day. The committee may also plan a spirit week and assist with the halftime ceremony.

Homecoming/Prom Committees

These committees plan all aspects of our two annual dances, including the selection of music, theme, and refreshments. They decorate for both dances (Homecoming at the school and Prom off-site), and they determine the dinner and keepsake for Prom.

Student Activity Council

This council is comprised of leaders or representatives of all student activity groups at the school. They meet to discuss the activity calendar, fundraising efforts, activity fairs, and more.

Usher Club

A “crew” of students is organized to support theatrical performances throughout the year. Meetings are held before each event to set work schedules and responsibilities.

Yearbook Club

Working with Bay View’s graphic design classes, members use Canva to plan, design, and produce the Bay View High School yearbook. Involved students build skills in communication, design, photography, and publication to capture the people, events, and spirit that make each school year unique.
