At Bay View High School, students begin by taking the Introduction to NAF Academies course to identify the pathway they wish to pursue. We proudly offer career training and preparation through our NAF Academy of Engineering and NAF Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. Both of our academies earned the Distinguished Academy rating, NAF’s highest honor, in 2024.
NAF Academy of Engineering
Essential principles of engineering are explored through Project Lead The Way and other hands-on instructional materials. Students utilize industry-standard software and modern technology, including new equipment provided through an award from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools. Courses include:
- PLTW: Introduction to Engineering Design
- PLTW: Principles of Engineering
- PLTW: Engineering Design and Development
- Intro to Programming
- Principles of Information Technology
Students who pass the Certified Onshape Associate exam show colleges and prospective employers that they have strong beginner-level design skills and can use professional engineering tools with confidence.
PLTW: More Information
Project Lead The Way incorporates project-based science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) learning into the classroom. The program develops problem-solving and critical-thinking skills and encourages students to explore careers in technology and engineering fields.
Onshape: More Information
Onshape is a cloud-based 3D design program that lets engineers and designers create, edit, and share models right in a web browser. It’s used to design everything from toys and tools to machines and buildings, helping people bring their ideas to life in a digital space before they’re built in the real world. Because it runs online, students can work on their projects anywhere—at school or at home—without needing special software.
NAF Academy of Hospitality and Tourism
Students are introduced to important components of one of the world’s largest industries, including foundational principles, customer service, event planning, and marketing. Courses include:
- Principles of Hospitality

- Culinary Arts Pathway (ProStart)
- Introduction to Culinary Arts

ProStart: More Information
Our Culinary Arts program uses ProStart, a hands-on curriculum created by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The program features real-world culinary arts and food service management opportunities.
Students who complete the program requirements earn the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement. This industry-recognized certificate involves passing two national exams, demonstrating proficiency in foundational skills, and working 400 hours in the industry. Earning the certificate makes students eligible for National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation scholarship opportunities and course credits at many leading hospitality and culinary arts colleges and universities.
In addition, students in our program also complete a ServSafe Food Handler certification that covers basic food safety, personal hygiene, cross-contamination and allergens, time/temperature, and cleaning/sanitation. This essential training can be directly applied to positions in the restaurant industry.
