Activities

Students can grow as dancers, artists, and athletes when they join groups and teams at La Escuela Fratney.

We offer a variety of after-school activities for students in first through fifth grades. Clubs vary year by year based on staff and student participation. Many clubs are run through the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center, so children can participate right after school.

Parents and caregivers, please join us in encouraging your child’s participation. Many clubs meet once or twice a week. Ask your child’s classroom teacher for sign-up and schedule information or watch our Monday updates.

Athletics

Fratney Fuego are student-athletes in first through fifth grades. Teams practice after school and compete on Saturdays through the Milwaukee Recreation Youth Sports Program. Sports offered may vary based on the number of students and volunteer coaches. Interested in becoming a coach? Please contact Elsi Mercado at [email protected].

Fratney Fuego teams compete in several co-ed sports. There are three seasons for sports: fall, winter, and spring.

  • Basketball
  • Flag football
  • Soccer
  • Volleyball

Cantos de las Américas

This annual celebration honors the varied cultures represented by Milwaukee Public Schools students. Small groups of students, usually first through third graders, are invited to represent La Escuela Fratney at the official district-wide celebration each May. Students spend several weeks learning and practicing dance traditions from the Spanish-speaking world such as Folklórico and salsa or a traditional song. Students often perform in culturally authentic dance attire.

Choir

Fourth- and fifth-grade vocalists entertain during theme celebrations, cultural events like Cantos de las Américas, and at community gatherings.

Girls on the Run

Third- through fifth-grade girls can enjoy fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness, and decision-making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.

Theme Celebrations

Quarterly school-wide theme celebrations connect what students learn in the classroom to their own lives, experiences, and family cultures. Combining song, dance, curriculum, and family and school values, theme celebrations spotlight:

  • We respect ourselves and our world. Every living thing has needs.
  • We are proud to be bilingual, multicultural learners.
  • We can make a difference in the world.
  • We share stories of the world.
