About

A Fratney education is bilingual, multicultural, and meaningful.

Students from K3 through sixth grade are models and mentors to one another. They learn core content, develop math and literacy skills, and build community in two languages.

Bilingual teachers plan creative, standards-based learning experiences in all subjects. During the K3 to K5 years, educators teach and students learn in Spanish for 90 percent of the school day. English instruction increases by 10 percent every year from K5 to third grade. A dual language education prepares students for success and service in high school, college, career, and global society.

Specialist teachers lead La Escuela Fratney’s full-time library, art, music, and physical education programs. Our Library Media Center is filled with natural light, stacked with children’s literature in all genres, and is home to the largest bilingual children’s collection in Wisconsin. This print-rich environment strengthens students’ bilingual and biliteral abilities and nurtures a lifelong love for learning.

Our historic school home has been updated and upgraded.

  • All classrooms are equipped with new teaching and learning technologies.
  • An elevator, spacious classrooms, and wide hallways help students of all abilities navigate our building.
  • A redeveloped schoolyard nurtures our neighborhood environment, hosts STEM lessons, and promotes healthy eating, mindfulness, and play.

La Escuela Fratney’s diverse student-family population reinforces our commitment to bilingual, multicultural, and antiracist education. Students use new knowledge, language, and skills to reflect on their own lives and experiences. School-wide themes celebrate these connections, from “respecting ourselves and our world,” to “sharing stories of the world.”

As a Fratney family, you join an active community of educators, parents, and neighbors. Our School Engagement Council welcomes parents as decision-makers and volunteers.
