Activities

Longfellow students can participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and showcases focused on the arts, athletics, community service, and more.

Our teachers, coaches, and parent volunteers take extracurricular activities seriously because they help students explore career interests, develop new talents and skills, and make friends. Students gain leadership experience and feel a strong sense of school pride when they represent Longfellow School during extracurricular activities.

Journey House

Just a five-minute walk from Longfellow School, Journey House is a nonprofit community center that provides academic, athletic, educational, and workforce development programs for Milwaukee children and families. Many Longfellow students participate in Journey House’s Felix Mantilla Baseball League, soccer league, camps, and performing arts classes after school and on weekends.

Cultural & Community Discovery

Hispanic Heritage Month Mercado – Longfellow celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month with a school mercado (market) that transforms our gymnasium into a showcase of student-made crafts inspired by Latin American cultures.

Leadership & Service

  • Neighborhood Cleanups – Students and their families join Longfellow staff to beautify the Clarke Square neighborhood that Longfellow has called “home” since 1886.
  • Student Council – When students lead as members of the Longfellow School Student Council, they find their voice, learn more about the school, and develop a deeper sense of responsibility, school pride, and connection with their peers.
  • Unity Walk – Proactive, positive vibes only during this annual anti-bullying walk that unites Longfellow staff, students, and families.
