At Starms Early Childhood Center, attendance is important to success! EVERY DAY COUNTS!
Please make sure that your child is at school, on time, every day. Our school day starts at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.
If your child will be absent or late, please contact the office at 149@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or (414) 934-4700. Give your name, your child’s name, grade, teacher, and reason for absence.

Attendance goal for EVERY student
Student absences are recorded as follows:
- Excused: An absence followed by a written or verbal acceptable excuse.
- Unexcused: An absence followed by a written or verbal unacceptable excuse.
- Truancy: An absence without a written or verbal excuse.
Normally, excuses must be presented within 48 hours of the absence, or the absence may be considered a truancy.
Acceptable Excuses
- Personal illness
- Funeral
- Bus did not arrive
- Required legal appearance
- Religious holiday
- Medical/dental appointment
- Family emergency
- Suspension
- Prior approved absence deemed educationally beneficial by administrator.
Unacceptable Excuses
- Vacation
- Personal business
- Missing the bus
- Working
- Babysitting
- Shopping
Truancy letters will be sent by the attendance office to parents/guardians of students who are absent for three days without an acceptable excuse. Habitual truancy will result in a referral to the school social worker and/or a referral by Student Services to the District Attorney’s office. It is extremely important that recordkeeping is accurate to ensure appropriate implementation of these guidelines.
