Maryland Avenue Montessori School has been a Milwaukee Public Schools site for more than 120 years, transitioning from a traditional school to a public Montessori program in 2001. We provide a quality education that prepares students for high school and beyond.

Student enrollment preferences for K3 and K4 are collected each February via the Milwaukee Public Schools Kindergarten Enrollment process.

The Maryland Avenue Montessori age of entry is three. Children must be three years old on or before September 1 of the year of entry.

It does not matter if a family applies for enrollment on the first day or the last day of the February enrollment window. All applications are pooled and sorted in late March.

Priority status is allocated to the following applicant groups from highest- to lowest-priority:

• Siblings of current MAM students,
• Applicants who live within the school’s one mile walk zone,
• Applicants who live within our school’s five-mile bus zone,
• Remaining seats are randomly assigned. When all seats are filled, remaining applicants are randomly assigned a waitlist position.

Families will be notified of their enrollment status in mid-April.

TIP: Truly interested in a public Montessori education for your child? Designate other MPS Montessori schools as your second and third choices. Enrollment from K5 through eighth grade is based on a preference for prior Montessori experience. Getting a Montessori start gives your child a better chance at transferring to MAM should a seat become available.

Completing Your Child’s Enrollment

Once enrollment at MAM is confirmed, parents/guardians must provide the following documentation to the school PRIOR to day one to secure their child’s spot:

• A certified copy of the child’s birth certificate,
• Proof of City of Milwaukee residency,
• The child’s immunization records.
