Principal’s Message

Bienvenue! Welcome to Milwaukee French Immersion School! As principal of MFIS, I am incredibly proud of our learning environment, where we value utilizing best practices, finding joy and belonging each day, preparing students for lifelong learning, and equipping students for life beyond MFIS. Centrally located in the city, with city-wide transportation and a before- and after-school camp program, we are a wonderful place for students to grow, learn, and develop into citizens of the world.

At MFIS, French is the language of instruction; which means that our students learn the content area at the same time as they learn the French language. Students in K4 through first grade receive instruction only in the French language. Formal English literacy instruction begins in second grade while the other students are still taught in French. This method ensures that students become proficient in two languages. We have found that our graduates have an advantage in the real world and have an appreciation for diverse cultures and the Francophone world.

Beyond the classroom, we have been increasing our extracurricular opportunities so that students can be challenged and learn new skills. We provide a variety of athletics and other after school clubs such as Lego, Chess, and Building Learners, a student environmental leadership group. Our coaches and club advisors help our students be motivated to try new things while building confidence.

At MFIS, parent and family involvement is crucial! We have a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), the Milwaukee French Immersion Foundation (MFIF) and a School Engagement Council (SEC).

Our PTA is incredibly active and they sponsor many engagement activities throughout the year, including our Mardi Gras celebration! The Milwaukee French Immersion Foundation works with MFIS and Milwaukee School of Languages to provide additional French speaking interns to our program. The SEC works with me to help determine next steps. At MFIS, parents are provided many opportunities to participate in their child’s education. There are always volunteering opportunities as well.

Please reach out to me with any questions, or if you’d like to take a tour for your incoming K4, K5, or first grader by calling the office at (414) 874-8400. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing all of the amazing opportunities that MFIS has to offer.
