Head Start

Anna F. Doerfler School offers full-day bilingual K3 Head Start to families who qualify.

Please note that K4 Head Start is also offered at select schools in MPS.

What is Head Start?

Head Start is a free education program for 3-year-old and 4-year-old children. This preschool program helps develop the math, reading, and life skills they need to be ready for kindergarten.

What does Head Start offer?

  • Free transportation to and from school
  • Breakfast, lunch, and snack on school days
  • Early reading and math skills
  • Health and dental services and screenings
  • Support for children with disabilities
  • Parent events and volunteer opportunities
  • Family resources

Who is eligible?

  • Children who turn 3 years of age by Sept. 1 from families who meet income guidelines.
  • Children with special needs receive priority for enrollment.
  • Children in foster/kinship care are automatically accepted.
