Families

Families are our most important resource in the Hopkins Lloyd Community School community.

Students perform better and enjoy school more when parents and guardians are involved.

Families are encouraged to set a time with teachers to visit their child’s classroom, discuss progress, and discuss their child. Progress reports are sent home to parents and guardians. Conferences are set regularly to share each student’s progress. Teachers and staff are ready to help our families with extra meetings or reports. We would love to see you join your child at school events and activities.

Support Your Student

Family involvement in a child’s education is shown to lead to better grades, better attendance, and improved test scores. Children with active parents often have higher self-esteem and better behavior.

You can help your child succeed in school!

  • Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day.
  • Call the school office at (414) 267-0600 when your child will be absent. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with any who are absent. We must also record absences correctly.
  • Ensure that your child gets at least 9 hours of sleep every night.
  • Dress your child appropriately for the weather.
  • Check your child’s bookbag every day for homework or important messages.
  • Help your child with homework.
  • Read with your child every day.
  • Volunteer in your child’s classroom.
  • Ask how you can join our field trips.
  • Become an active member of our Family Leadership Organization (FLO).

Helping Your Child with Homework

Your child’s teacher is happy to talk with you about the type of homework that is right for your child. Call the school office at (414) 267-0600 to find out how to contact your child’s teacher.

At home, have a quiet time and place for homework. Your child has access at home to the same online programs they use in class. Have your student log in through Clever  to find the programs they use, such as Smarty Ants, My Path, Discovery Education, Flocabulary, and others.

Talk About Your Child’s Progress with Their Teachers

Attending parent-teacher conferences shows your child how much you support them. If your child’s scheduled conference time does not work for you, contact the teacher to choose a time to visit your student’s classroom, talk about their progress, and share ways to help your child learn.

Be sure to check your student’s bookbag every day for homework and important school messages. Teachers and staff regularly send home reports to monitor and ensure each student’s progress. If you would like more conferences, meetings, or reports, please tell your child’s teacher.

Volunteer

Hopkins Lloyd is committed to involving families in our school. Parents and guardians are encouraged to find out how to assist teachers in their classrooms. This allows children to see their family and school working together for them.

At Hopkins Lloyd, we are proud to have many active parent volunteers. We are always looking for more people to work with our students. If you are interested in helping in our classrooms, please contact our parent coordinator to find out more.
