Families

At Fairview School, family involvement is essential to building a strong school community, supporting student success, and creating meaningful partnerships between families and staff.

Parent Center

Located in room 110, the Fairview Parent Center offers a space for parents, families, and community members to connect. The center is open by appointment with our parent coordinator.

Parent Coordinator

This role is designed to help parents and guardians find information about our school and MPS. Jenna Stanley is the parent coordinator at Fairview. Learn more about our parent coordinator, then contact her at [email protected] or (414) 546-7780.

District Advisory Council (DAC)

Families can stay informed on and share ideas about the district’s Title I programs and priorities during monthly meetings of the District Advisory Council (DAC). Each school sends two delegates to meetings; alternates may attend as well.

Fundraisers

Regular fundraisers help support our school, and another easy way to provide support is through the Box Tops for Education program. By purchasing participating products and scanning receipts in the Box Tops app, families help provide funds for Fairview. Every eligible purchase adds up, making everyday shopping a simple way to give back.

Monthly Newsletter

Our parent coordinator puts together a monthly newsletter for families to highlight what is happening at Fairview.

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

Monthly meetings of our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) promote engagement and improve school culture. These meetings are an important way to get involved at Fairview. Through fundraisers like our coffee and kringle sales, the PTO funds important school events throughout the year, including our fall festival, bingo night, themed school dances, and more. They also sponsor shirts for eighth-grade completion and celebrations like Teacher Appreciation Week. To join our PTO or volunteer at PTO-sponsored events, please contact [email protected].

Current PTO Board Members:

  • Kelly Mutsch, President
  • Stacy Nowak, Vice President
  • Jennifer Montalvo, Treasurer

School Engagement Council (SEC)

School spirit and student enrichment are on the agenda for Parent Teacher Associations and Organizations districtwide. School policies, procedures, and student well-being are the work of School Engagement Councils, established in Milwaukee Public Schools in 1997.

The Fairview School Engagement Council brings together families, staff, students (when appropriate), and community members to support and inform shared leadership that can lead to increased student achievement.
Members of the council:

  • Analyze school climate, performance, and budgetary issues.
  • Advise school faculty and administration on matters affecting curriculum, student performance, and overall student well-being.

You can participate in our School Engagement Council as a voting member or guest. Email our parent coordinator or principal to suggest agenda topics for an upcoming meeting.

Student Support

Family participation is highly encouraged at Fairview. Family involvement leads to improved test scores; higher self-esteem; and better grades, attendance, and behavior for children.

You can help your child succeed in school!

  • Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day (7:15 a.m.).
  • Call the Fairview attendance line at (414) 546-7700 (option 1) when your child will be absent. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with anyone who is not there. We must also record absences correctly.
  • Ensure that your child gets at least nine hours of sleep every night.
  • Dress your child appropriately for the weather. Please tell us if your student needs a coat or other outerwear.
  • Check your child’s backpack every day for homework or important messages.
  • Set aside a quiet space and time for homework. Help your child with assignments.
  • Read with your child every day.
  • Attend the Student Engagement Council (SEC) monthly meetings.
  • Volunteer in the classroom.
  • Ask how you can join our field trips.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you would like to volunteer at Fairview, there are many ways to get involved. You can take part in class activities, assist with group projects or reading practice, or help with cutting and collating at home. We also welcome guest speakers to share information about their careers and experiences. No matter how you want to help, each opportunity reaps incredible rewards for everyone involved!

For more information, including a list of current opportunities, please contact our parent coordinator or stop by the Parent Center.
